Katharine Maddox has litigation experience in all areas of family law, including litigating both property and custody matters as the attorney for both mothers and fathers and she has litigated several child relocation cases. In custody matters Katharine focuses on what is best for the children and she understands that absent unusual circumstances children need both parents in their lives. As part of her practice in domestic relations law she has worked on many international family law cases with clients from multiple countries.
In 2003, Katharine was selected to participate in the Judicial Council of Virginia's Solutions Conference, tasked with finding ways to improve the justice system in
Virginia
. In 2004 Katharine authored an article for the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association on the topic of child relocation in
Virginia
. Additionally, she has attended two summer programs sponsored by the
American Academy
of Matrimonial Lawyers focused on improving client representation including settlement and litigation skills. Katharine has also attended numerous meetings of the
American Academy
of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers with Marcia Maddox, the principal of the firm, who is a fellow in both organizations.
In 2006 Katharine moved to
Rome , Italy
where she continued to work part time for Maddox Cole & Miller P.C. assisting with appeals, specifically drafting briefs for submission to the Virginia Court of Appeals. Katharine returned full time to
United States
and Maddox Cole & Miller P.C. in early 2008. Prior to her move to Italy Katharine was one of the leaders of both the Young Lawyers Association of the Fairfax Bar Association and the Young Leadership Committee of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and she presently continues to be involved in legal organizations.
Katharine received her B.A. in psychology at the
University of Virginia
and her J.D. (with Honors) from The George Washington University, where she served as the Chairperson of the Law School Academic Integrity Committee.
