Teresa Cole has been practicing as a divorce attorney for over fifteen years. Based on her experience and proven track record, she has been appointed as a Neutral Case Evaluator by the 19th Judicial Circuit to evaluate settlement positions in divorce cases for other divorce attorneys. In addition, Ms. Cole was recently appointed to serve on the Divorce and Family Law Attorney Resource Panel as an advisor to state legislators in Virginia on family law issues. She is an Alexandria, Virginia native, having graduated from the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology and the University of Virginia. She received her J.D. from Hastings College of Law in San Francisco. After practicing for a short period of time in California, Ms. Cole was recruited by the American Bar Association in Washington , D.C. to develop training materials and seminars to educate judges and lawyers about new domestic violence and parental kidnapping laws. Ms. Cole also served as a certified mediator in the Supreme Court of Virginia's court-referral mediation program in Loudoun and Prince William counties. From 1996 to 1999, Ms. Cole lived and practiced in Warrenton, Virginia and its surrounding counties in a litigation intensive family law practice. During this time period, Ms. Cole served on the Board of Directors for a local agency called Services to Abused Families, Inc. and used her expertise in domestic violence laws to train local police departments and help develop police protocol for when to make an arrest in a domestic violence case. Ms. Cole has been with Maddox, Cole & Miller, P.C. since 1999, handling complex divorce and equitable distribution cases and utilizing her keen understanding of family abuse laws to secure protective orders and exclusive use of the home for abused spouses, as well as in defending wrongfully accused spouses in certain cases. Recently, Ms. Cole has broadened her experience in handling some significant custody cases involving alternative family arrangements. Ms. Cole has a high percentage of divorce cases involving government or military personnel and retirement benefits, and has mastered successful navigation of the applicable regulations in such cases. Ms. Cole is very active in her local bar association and presently serves as a representative of the domestic relations bar on the Fairfax County Circuit Court Committee, comprised of judges, lawyers and court clerks. Ms. Cole is married to a former Marine and has four children.
